How to pick locks
Use a lockpick on tumbler locks, adjust the pick to find the turning angle, then turn the lock without forcing a bad position. Keypad containers instead require a four-digit code.
What I checked
PowerPyx confirms the 120-coin Lockpick recipe and 3 Scraps + 3 Coils crafting cost. Game Rant and GamerBlurb provide the minigame description; prices and controls are launch-guide reports, not independently tested here.
Find, buy or craft lockpicks
Search drawers and containers for picks. Game Rant reports a ready-made pick at the merchant for 80 coins. At Zora's first shop, the Lockpick recipe costs 120 coins once; after buying it, each crafted pick uses 3 Scraps and 3 Coils. There is no additional 120-coin fee per craft.
Materials compete with weapon repairs and ammunition, so loot first and craft only when needed. Random resource drops make fixed material-location promises unreliable.
Turn the lock without breaking the pick
Use the on-screen prompt for your platform. GamerBlurb reports mouse positioning and W to turn on PC; remapped controls can differ.
- Interact with a pickable lock while carrying a lockpick.
- Set the pick angle and briefly test the lock's rotation.
- If the lock barely turns or shakes, release the turn input and adjust the angle.
- Continue testing nearby angles. More rotation means you are closer to the working position.
- At the working angle, turn through the opening phase rather than forcing resistance.
Which doors a pick cannot open
A numerical pad, statue gate or story-key door needs its own combination or item. Spending another pick will not bypass a Genesis Configuration slot or an objective key.
For a completionist run, the Lockpick recipe also counts toward Librarian and crafting a pick counts toward Artificer. Keep a record of the recipes you have actually crafted.
Questions
Will a code open a tumbler?
No. Four-digit codes are for keypad containers. See the codes page.
